Brown-eyed Susan - This flower is quite common and will seed in very well.

Swamp Milkweed mixed with Butterfly Weed - The Swamp Milkweed has a pinky red cluster of flowers, and is found in most areas, especially wet areas. The Butterfly Weed has a orange flower and is also part of the Milkweed Family.

Willow - Bioengineering site - Dormant plants (willow) are cut in fall and tied in horizontal bundles which are then placed in a trench built along a bank where erosion has been a concern. The sprouting of the willow will help stabilize the bank.

A mixture of Big Bluestem, Little Bluestem, and Indian Grass - These grasses are some of the common species of the tallgrass prairie that once occupied certain areas in Southern Ontario.

Wild Bergamont - This flower is in the mint family and has a pinkish or pale lilac colored flower.

200 shrubs and trees were planted in the fall of 2000.
Shrubs species are as follows:

  • Chokecherry
  • Elderberry
  • Nannyberry
  • Red Osier Dogwood
  • Staghorn Sumac
    Tree species are as follows:
  • Red Maple and Ash

  • Mallard Duck House - This was built to provide a safe nesting area for Mallard ducks so they do not have to worry about predators.

    Bluebird Nest Box - This box was built according to the Peterson Bluebird box design. The Bluebird population was on the decline due to the competitive nature of the House Sparrow for habitat. However, since the Bluebird box program became effective the Bluebird population is on the rise.
